Easy maintenance for marine toilets.

Marine sanitation may not be the most comfortable topic to discuss, but it is undoubtedly a crucial aspect of boating. It is one of the most common maintenance issues faced by boat owners, and neglecting it can lead to expensive and time-consuming problems down the line.

Therefore, ensuring proper marine sanitation is essential to prevent any such issues. Before setting out on your next boating trip, it is vital to be aware of Australia’s maritime regulations regarding the disposal of human waste.

The following tips will help you maintain your marine toilets.

Be sure to explain how to use the toilet and avoid causing blockages to your guests. Keep a laminated list of instructions in the bathroom so your guests know what to do.
Use lightweight, biodegradable toilet paper such as Fiamma Toilet Tissue or Thetford Aqua Soft Toilet Rolls to avoid blockages.
No matter how much you trust your onboard systems, use onshore facilities whenever possible.
Electric pump-out models require charged and well-maintained batteries to ensure an effective flush.
Consider bioactive treatments like enzymes, nitrates and bioactive compounds instead of chemicals.

The dreaded occurrence of blockages is the worst nightmare of every boat owner, but with proper maintenance, this will never be an issue. If you must remove a blockage, do not use undue force to push it through the system – that will result in bigger problems.
